This is a beautiful Owens Arts & Crafts vase with a green matte glaze background. Large raised thistle foliage and flower have been nicely formed about the circumference with noticeable hand tool sculpting. On the raised relief designs the green background is lighter giving a nice look to the raised areas. A matte glaze covers the vase. There are some flakes on the upper corners and sides of the square base, otherwise it is in great condition. Please see pictures. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE POTTERY IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
Owens Pottery was made in Zanesville, Ohio, from 1891 to 1928. The first art pottery was made after 1896. Pieces were usually marked with a form of the name Owens. About 1907, the firm began to make tile and discontinued the art pottery wares. Utopian, Lightweight, Lotus, Henri Deux, and Matte Green are some of Owens Pottery's most popular lines of art pottery.
