Beautiful pair of matching antique sleigh bells from the 19th century. Marked "England" , these bells adorned a horse owners favorite pair during the holiday's in rural central Missouri. We were fortunate to acquire these from a local antique dealer in a small German farming community in mid-Missouri. It seems they have been together as a pair since they were first used in the late 1800's.
Each set of bells is 76" long end-to-end. There are 30 brass bells on each strap. The brass bells are double throat with 4 round cuts on each bell. The bells are 1 1/2" high and 1 1/2" wide. The heavy stitched black leather straps are 1" wide. The bells are riveted to the straps, the buckles are both brass.
One brass buckle is stamped "England", one is not.
As mentioned before, these are a MATCHED set of sleigh bells. Finding a pair of sleigh bells like this is rare indeed.
