This is a rare find and would look wonderful where ever you place it! The rectangular case of quarter-sawn oak is fitted with a single drawer and handled drop front. This box has a mechanical feature, when you pull down the large door a gliding hinge system reveals a double pigeon-holed compartment and match striker with ash receiver tray. The exterior is decorated with pierced brass applied corners, flanked by brass handles, and a shield-shape applied reserved engraved with NC on lid. There is a locking mechanism but no key. On the rim of the door has been incised "RN 568746" which is the registration number indicating a taxation date of 1907. There are two stress flaws is the grain on the front door that do not go through. Please see the pictures for the overall condition.
