Wonderful English China Teapot ~ Gaudy Welsh Orange, Blue and Gold Designs This beautiful old tea pot really makes a statement and stand-out. It can be used for tea, filled with flowers and used as a table centerpiece or placed on a sideboard for decoration. Bright bold shades of orange, red, and cobalt blue decorate this piece wonderful in the pattern that is term as Gaudy Welsh. It is in great condition with no cracks or chips. The tip of the spout is a little rough but not chipped. Gaudy Welsh decorated many cottages in Wales in the 1800's. The Welsh potters were in competition with the English potters to market their wares at the time. A large amount was shipped to the US and were quickly purchased by the Welsh immigrants. They named many patterns after various cities in Wales, which I'm sure made them feel closer to their homeland. The Gaudy Welsh was produced over a very long period continuing to the early 1900's. Much of the early Gaudy Welsh does not bare a markers mark.
Backstamp: 1619 in gold, three blue dots, impressed ENGLAND around the rim and something else impressed.
