This is a wonderful old piece that could tell many stories! It has a gorgeous black or mulberry transfer; in the well of the plate are people on a shore bank, along with trees, foliage and a stairway. Large buildings and mountains are in the background opposite the waterway. The plate is twelve sided and the rim is paneled. On the rim there are five cartouches containing a scene of Moorish temples and minarets. There is a slice off the foot trim and a chip on the both sides of the rim, please see pictures for condition. The chip on the front has been colored in with black and while it is there, the plate, in fact, shows pretty well. This will make a good addition to a collection of these very dark transfers. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
Backstamp: SUSA in a lozenge shape with CMS&P below; impressed mark
Measures 10 5/8 inches across its widest.
