It is hard to believe these beauties have survived so many years; they are in such excellent condition! These are decorated by of Havilands great artist, Pallandre. These are done on Haviland blanks featuring Osier (embossed basket weave design) insets on the rims. The inset background is a brilliant white color and the square centers of the plates are a very light gray color. On the center of each plate a different fruit motif has been applied in the mixtion method. Mixtion is a combination of transfer and hand painting. On these plates it is very hard to see the transfer except the outline around the fruit. The artist did a wonderful job in giving the pieces a true hand painted look. Raised enamel has also been applied to areas of the design. The apple, lemon, plum, melon and pecan also have their flowers associated with them painted on the plate. The pecan plate is very unique showing the nuts emerging out of their husks and their flowers or catkins are also shown. The artist Pallandre was a Parisian flower painter, whose works are deservedly priced. He has done some fine work for Haviland & Co. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
