Wedgwood began producing commemorative wares for the importer in 1879. This collaboration continued until 1953 when more than 1,000 wares had been produced. This scene was produced before 1899, however, as evidenced by the impressed Wedgwood mark on the base of the plate. The potters were inspired by the pride and patriotism they saw and rose to the occasion by creating some transferware designs for the American Market. These popular designs commemorated American Patriots, historical events and gorgeous landscapes. There are no chips, hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
