This is a wonderful old earthenware plate by Minton. I’ve seen the pattern but it is in blue and white so I’m not sure if the pattern name would be ‘Cower’ or not. It has been decorated dark and light brown floral designs. The center has a sunflower like design within three brown rings. Extending from the rings onto the creamy background are deep brown fines with white and light brown flowers. The wide rim has an embossed basket weave design. Around the scalloped edge is a garland of white and brown flowers on brown vines. Something about this old piece just wouldn’t let me leave it on the antique stores shelf. It needs a good loving home where someone will appreciate it for what it is, a beautiful piece of history!!! There are no chips or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
Backstamp: Impressed 'Minton' and British Diamond Mark dating piece to 10/12/1881 Circle with X is also present which is Mintons method of dating it 1882
Measures: 9 ¾”
