This is the most unique china plate mold I have yet to see!!! Please see the close ups, because I don’t think I can describe it well enough to do it justice. The artist ‘E.’ has accented the raised relief portion of the plate with gold. She has painted some of the background a soft yellowy cream color, while leaving the indentions on the rim a brilliant white. For the main design she has painted what appears to be a bearded iris emerging from the bottom of the plate and extending out onto the yellow background. The flower is a deeper yellow and has brown specks and white beard. She has complemented the flowers with beautiful green leaves finishing this wonderful masterpiece. Plate is in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or crazing.
It measures 8 1/2"
C.H. Limoges is listed in Mary Gaston’s “Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain” . Pge 392. Little is known about the company and it appears they were only in business for 10 years. For their backstamp they use the Coat of Arms of Limoges France and place a C. H. above it. It looks very similar to the mark used by Bawo & Dotter, Elite Works. It is not know if Bawo & Dotter bought them out and continued using the mark or not. Please visit Timber Hills Shop on Ruby Lane for different and unique items. Items added on a regular basis!!!
