Exceptional American Majolica Plate ~ with Leaf Shape ~ Etruscan Griffin, Smith & Hill of Phoenixville, PA 1880-1892
Beautiful plate, beautiful colors! This is a great Etruscan majolica plate made by Griffin, Smith and Hill of Phoenixville, PA. This piece can be seen in the book "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica" by Mariann Katz-Marks. The edge is a gold yellow with a raised basket weave design. In the center is a large beautiful green leaf. Around the leaf is the well know pinkish color associated with this company. The underside is a wonderful blue green color. It will make a nice display piece and it needs a good home! This piece has a rim flake and a flake of the underside base rim. Please see pictures for condition.IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
