When you find these plates you better grab them because they are a rare find! This set was produced by Wannopee Pottery, New Milford CT from 1901 to 1903. In 1901 the firm began production of lettuce-leaf ware. Based originally on their Italian majolica counterpart, later molds were made actually using cabbage leaves with the outline of the stem and large veins evident. This line, with a pale green or a pink glaze, was extended to some twenty-five sizes and shapes, and it sold extremely well. The set does have that wonderful soft variegated green color like the leaves of fresh lettuce or cabbage giving it a very realistic look. There are no chips but the bowl has some old hairline cracks, please see pictures. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
