This is a very beautiful majolica plate that was manufactured in Choisy le Roi France. The faience factory produced majolica from 1860 until 1910. The firm's wares are not always marked. The common mark is usually a black ink stamped "Choisy-le-Roi". The "H Boulenger" stands for Hippolyte Boulenger a director at the pottery. The factory's work was some of the most delicate produced in France. This plate is from an animal plate series manufactured by the Boulenger Factory. This exceptionally beautiful faience plate is a companion piece to the mallard duck and the peacock plate which are listed in our store. The pheasant has a bright crimson breast, golden yellow head and gold and brown tail. The back portion and wings are a deep cobalt blue. Raised relief of logs, rocks and grasses are in an olive green background. The upper portion of the plate has raised relief designs of trees. The artist has placed his or her initials "AD" in the grass on the side of the plate. The pheasant plate is highly sought after by collectors of early Quimper, and French faience so don’t let it slip away! Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie. There are no chips or cracks on this piece, there is some slight discoloration on the back side rim. IT IS RARE TO FIND VINTAGE AND ANTIQUE MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
This would make a wonderful addition to any majolica collection. Please see our other animal series plates!
