This wonderful earthenware plate has a deep brown and cream background with American Marine motifs. This plate has a boarder of cartouches make from twisted rope. Each cartouche has ships scenes in them. The main motif on the well of the plate is a large sailing vessel in choppy seas. The American Marine pattern was first made around the 1850s by Francis Morley & Co which later became part of George L. Ashworth & Bros in the 1860s. The plate has a hairline on the rim and a few rim chips but colors are still very rich looking. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
Backstamp: GLA BROS American Marine
