This would make a wonderful decorating statement in any bathroom, kitchen or on a washstand! This set is what is considered "Calvertine " ware. It is similar in its composition to the Haynes " Avalon" pieces, but quite different in decorative treatment, being turned upon the lathe, with spaces for bands, upon which were overlaid conventional relief ornaments. This produced a refined effect when treated with delicate colors and outlined with darker tints of gold. The "Castilian" set is worthy of special mention, being Moorish in form, in relief ornamentation, and in color. The bowl is round but has portions on each corner that extends outward giving it a square look. The upper portion has a raised relief boarder with leaf designs accented with gold. The body portion has a light grayish olive green background with darker geometric designs. The pitcher has an up-turned pointed handle, the same raised band on the upper portion and the grayish green with designs for the body. This design can be seen in "The Pottery and Porcelain of the United States By Edwin Atlee Barber" The handle has a crack but it is not through and through. There are no other cracks or chips on this magnificent piece!
