Villeroy Boch Mettlach has captured the likeness of this magnificent place on this wonderful faience plaque. The immense size and detailed workmanship is amazing. This piece is drilled for hanging for all to admire. This plaque is listed in the Mettlach book by Gary Kirsner. This piece does have a 2" hairline crack on the rim but now other cracks or chips; please see pictures. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
Most impressively, Marienburg Castle raises its distinctive silhouette over the South Western slope of the Marienburg, some 15 km north-westerly of Hildesheim and approx. 20 km south of Hanover. The castle with its many turrets dominates the rolling hills of the valley of the River Leine. The former summer residence of the Guelphs - once a birthday present from the Hanoverian King George V to his wife, Queen Mary - is considered one of the most important neo-Gothic historical buildings in Germany. A variety of different facades, turrets and the multitude of different roof shapes easily cast a spell on the visitor making them part of fairy tale life in a castle.
