Wonderful old plate decorated in the Pickard fashion with bright red currants. They have been placed in three groups along the golden rim of the plate. Gold and brown stems come from each fruit grouping to connect at the center with a three leaf and berry grouping. Small raised white specks have been added around the gold rim, on the berries ad on various places on the plate. This plate bears the artist signature "M.Rost LeRoy". M.Rost LeRoy was active at Pickard from 1898 through 1905 and then left for the Donath Studio Studio in 1906. Leroy was a prolific producer of a wide variety of traditional subjects that included cherry sprays, strawberry sprays, apple blossoms, gooseberries and an occasional bird. His compositions were some of Pickard's best. This motif can be found under the Donath Studio on pg 259 . (Source: Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China by Alan B. Reed 1995.) There are no hairlines, chips or cracks; manufacturing anomalies may exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc
