Bring out a set of these after a special dinner to serve a sweet hot chocolate or espresso! This elegant gold embossed cup and saucer definitely shows the fine workmanship of the Pickard Studio. This wonderful piece has been painted with a diamond pattern, gold embossed / encrusted band on the inside upper edge and the rim of the saucer. A small gold band circles under the embossed band, the base of the footed cup and the well of the saucer. The rim of the cup and the handle has also been painted with gold. The background is a soft creamy white, which really makes the gold rim pop. "All patterns are decorated with 24K gold (never anything less).......with a style that caters to a niche of clientele looking for elegant, timeless upscale dinnerware." The pattern and can be seen in the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China by Alan B. Reed".
The Jefferson Pattern was the first official Texas State china used in the Governors' Mansion during the Shivers Administration. First Lady Marealice loved fine things and entertaining and she persuaded the state legislature that the grand state of Texas needed official china. Their settings also include the state seal. Pickard China was established in Edgerton, Wisconsin in 1893 by Wilder Austin Pickard, and moved to Chicago in 1897. For some forty years the Pickard China Studio, as the firm was then known, was a decorating company specializing in hand painted art pieces, dessert and tea sets.
Today Pickard china ranks among the finest in the world, highly noted for its graceful shapes and beautiful decorations. It has the feel of lightness and delicacy, while maintaining unusual strength. Its glaze is of remarkable brilliance and hardness. All Pickard pieces are Made in America ---hand-crafted by skilled American artisans.
Pickard dinnerware is the official dinnerware for all U.S. embassies and consulates throughout the world. Pickard is honored to have created the custom china used aboard Air Force One by Presidents George W. Bush and William J. Clinton.
There are no chips, hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc .
