This well done winter landscape of oil on board painting, is unusual because the artist was known for her desert landscapes. She signed the lower right, "Edna Boughton". Edna Lovejoy Boughton was born on a farm in Iowa in 1899. Edna married Carl Boughton in 1916 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Manns, North Dakota into the 1930s. Mrs. Boughton lived in Osage, Iowa before moving to Laguna Beach in 1944. Her paintings include landscapes of the desert near Palm Springs. Exh: Laguna Beach Art Ass’n, 1955. Since she did live in North Dakota this could possibly be one of her earlier paintings or one she painted because she missed the winter season. The frame is original to the painting and definitely around the 1950's time. If you put this painting in a darker frame it will bring out the true beauty of this scene. The condition is good but it does have some water damage to the back of the board.
