Wonderful oil on canvas attributed to Aaron Draper Shattuck ( American 1832 - 1928 ). The canvas depicts a picturesque pastoral landscape scene with cows and sheep in a fenced pasture. The White Mountains of the Hudson River Valley are in the background. The artist captures the scene beautifully. Very pleasing to the eye and absolutely wonderful to look at. The painting is very old and for it’s age is in good condition. It could be brought back to life with a little restoration and cleaning.
Two small areas of paint lose, the original canvas is present. Please see pictures for condition.
The 4 canvas stretcher's as shown were designed and patented by "Aaeon" (Aaron) D. Shattuck in 1883. Mis-spellings on original patient paperwork filings were common.
Failing health and eyesight forced Shattuck to retire from painting in 1888. He lived in Granby, Connecticut from 1870 - 1928. While living on his farm in Granby, CT he painted tranquil scenes of sheep and cattle.
Measures: Canvas is 16 x 24 inches.
