This is a unique little ewer that has been masterfully hand painted with purple berries that we in the Midwest call Possum Grapes. This is the first time that I've seen them used as the main motif on porcelain. The artist has used a brick red background at the upper portion of this piece and soft pastel on the lower portion. He has painted the deep purple clusters of grapes amongst fall colored leaves, placing them on the upper portion of the ewer. He has extended a few vines with leaves and berries down the piece in a shadowy effect. He has completed this piece by using a rich gold on the ornate handle and around the rim of this ewer. The artist has initialed the bottom with M. A. H. We have found this piece in unmarked RS Prussia piece in the miniature version on PG 135 RS Prussia & More By Mary F. McCaslin. IT IS RARE TO FIND ANTIQUE EARTHENWARE IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
Measures: 9" H x 4" W
