I acquired this decoy in the mid 1980's in Breaux Bridge,LA from a local antique dealer. She said her Grandfather used this decoy and several more like it in the 1920's on waterfowl hunts in St.Martin Parish,LA.
This is a hand carved green-winged teal drake with original paint and glass eyes. The decoy body is carved from a solid piece of cedar or cypress wood. The head and bill are carved from a solid block of the same wood, then attached with a nail to the body. The decoy is the "hump-back" style, with a tapered square dovetail on the rear of the decoy. Original glass eyes, original paint and the original small strip of lead on the underside for balance are all present. A thin wire loop is attached to the lower side of the breast for tying the decoy line and bottom weight. There is a crack on one side of the neck but it doesn't appear to go through to the other side.
This little beauty is perfect for display on a desk, bookcase shelf or end table.
Measures: 10 3/4" L x 4" W x 4" H
