I’m sure this made the table pop when it was done with beautiful fruit and gelatin or savory jelly. This piece has basically three levels that they could have been layered with different foods. This mold has a large flower motif. It has rolled rim and riveted hanger. The patina is nice and the item still has a nice shine. Signs of age and use, areas of green verdigris, very good overall. This looks great displayed!!!
No large 18th or 19th century house would be without a selection of molds for shaping various desserts and savory dishes for presentation at table, and these make a decorative and very useful addition to a modern kitchen. In the 1830s, copper jelly molds became popular. Hammered or die-stamped into shape and lined with tin to prevent verdigris poisoning, copper molds were more likely to have abstract shapes than representational ones. When polished, they looked very well in a kitchen, and often doubled as cake molds.
