This wonderful set depicts the Greek Goddess Psyche lying in Cupids arms. The bookends appear to have been copper patinated finish. The patina on the bookends gives it a wonderful aged look as it should. It appears to not have been polished. The markings on the back are very very faint but it does appear to maybe have the C within the triangle and circle. Please see pictures for condition.
Located in Rocky Hill, CT, the Connecticut Foundry produced a line of sand cast metal bookends that had a distinctive style characterized by very soft details. They manufactured solely in iron. All but a few of their bookends, from the late 1920s to early 1930s were made with a simple patinated finish. Rare examples of polychrome bookends do exist. Their line of bookends went out of production sometime between the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II.
