This is a beautiful hand-tooled floral art nouveau leather purse. It has a yellow and gold outer clasp giving it a nice look. At one time I'm sure this was some woman's pride and joy. Woman of this era could attach her Arts & Crafts purse at her waist chatelaine style or just carry it. The inside is a nice soft green leather. A pocket is on one side of the interior with holders for possible lipstick on the other. On the inside flap there is pockets to hold possibly a nail file and mirror or comb. It does show wear but is still nice and clean. The webbing is worn on one corner of the flap and the leather handle has broken. The handle can be repaired by a shoe repair person. The condition doesn't detract from the overall beauty of the handcrafted workmanship. Please see pictures for the condition. There were many makers of these Arts & Crafts purses, as well as the fittings and the frames. Meeker (Joplin, MO), Eger Kress, Amity, Justin and Kranz of Cordova Shops (Buffalo, NY) are some favorite makers. Jemco and Turnloc made many of the metal fittings for purses.
This would make a wonderful display piece!!!
