This lovely pair of late Victorian/early Edwardian lorgnettes where purchased from a shop in England. The Lorgnette has a blank 14K gold cartouche and excellent working spring action. Although not hallmarked, the cartouche tests out to 14K with a gold tester. The spring action works with a small catch on the side of the handle. The metal around the lens worn but is gold plated. There is a long black cotton ribbon attached to the loop at the end. There is some sort of embossed mark on the frames at the underside of the lens but I can't make it out . Condition is very good , glasses spring out perfectly, a few small nicks on the edge, and some scratches to the lens.
Size - approx 4.25" long when closed (not including the hanging loop). Approx 4" lens to lens when opened.
