An early Hudson River School landscape painting. Oil on canvas, unknown artist, looking at Monadnock Mt as seen from Perkins Pond. Painting and frame circa 1850's-1860's.
The colors are typical of early Fall with browns, reds and yellows. In the fore ground is a reclining boy wearing a black, wide brimmed hat. This style was typical of the 1850's or prior. The work exhibits the usual signs of being painted by a well taught artist of the famous school. Unsigned, the artist has included details of water reflecting the nearby tree's, shadows of a setting sun, calm river waters at twilight and the peaceful thoughts of nature as it relates to man.
The painting is in a nice original frame, untouched. Good overall condition noting a piece of wood that splintered and was lost in the lower right corner. The painting and frame are circa 1850's. Before we acquired the painting it was held for 50 years in a private collection.
Size: Framed – 16.75 inches X 12 inches. Canvas is 13.25 inches X 9 inches.
