This beautiful piece was once used to serve butter but the insert is long gone. It still looks wonderful as a display piece but if you did want to serve something in it such as olives, pickles etc., it would hold a glass bowl just perfect. The main portion sits on a raised base and has a band around it that has been decorated with a design of lattice work with flowers where the lines criss cross. Round cartouches with a flower have been interspersed on the lattice work. The holder on the side is composed geese heads that for a ‘V’ to hold a small utensil. The holder also has the same floral cartouches under the ‘V’ . The cover of the piece is adorned with engraved flowers an geometric design. It also has a small dome decorated with the lattice work and a finial to finish the cover off. The fork is by E.J. Bass Company 1890-1930. Please see pictures for condition.
