The work of Henri Loux is best known for the decoration of dishes "Obernai". Some of the 56 subjects were reproduced on different objects, produced by Faïenceries Sarreguemines, Utzschneider & Co and manufactures in Lunéville-St-Clément are in fact only a small part of his work.
The plate from this set has a scene on the center of a man and woman embracing in a wheat field, possibly giving thanks for a bountiful harvest. Trees and building are in the distance. The detail is very nice and the colors are still bright. The rim of the plate has groups of bright red and blue flowers with greenery connected together by vines. The cup has more of the floral swags around the upper portion of the cup. A golden brown band with a bow decorates the front side. There is a small chip that has an old repair on the rim of the cup, please see pictures. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
