This covered dish would be fantastic sitting out or serving up a hot steaming dish! It is on a footed base and has an awesome finial that really sets this piece apart from the normal covered dishes. This is the very popular pattern "Blue Onion" on this beautiful piece white porcelain. The Meissen Porcelain Factory was the first to use this pattern derived from the Chinese. The so-called "onions" are not onions at all, but, according to historians, are most likely mutations of the peaches and pomegranates modeled on the original Chinese pattern. The whole design is an ingeniously conceived grouping of several floral motifs, with Japanese peaches and the pomegranates, plus stylized peonies and asters in the pattern's center, the stems of which wrap in flowing curves around a bamboo stalk . There are no hairlines or cracks there is a small flake on the footed base and a nick on the rim; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.

Please see our platter PLTR37 by Villeroy Boch Company that matches this wonderful piece.
