It is hard to believe these beauties could be 140 years old; they are in such excellent condition! These are decorated by of Haviland with a combination of hand painting and transfers. These are done on Haviland blanks featuring Osier (embossed basket weave design) insets on the rims. The inset background is a brilliant white color with gold accents around the center portion. On the inside rim of each bowl a cartouche has a scenery image trimmed in gold. Foliage has been also placed on the inside rim in deep greens with red berries giving it a nice look. The gravy boat has been decorated with the same type of cartouches and foliage. The artist did a wonderful job in giving the pieces a true hand painted look. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
