This bowl is a definitely a knock out! It is unmarked but we feel it is a Bavarian mold. I have seen this mold described as a bulb mold, apparently they were used to plant flower bulbs in them. I can't believe anyone would use this one for that! The gold work is phenomenal which leads us to believe that it was Pickard or Stouffer Studio decorated. The upper outside rim has a floral like raised relief and the lower portion is what is called grounded design both done in gold. The inside has a pastel background of blues, greens, creams and yellows. The artist has painted a wonderful rendition of wild pink roses that circle the lower edge of the inside. There is slight gold where to the top of the rim but it does not distract from the true beauty of this piece. Factory decorated by Rivir Chicago. This is a listed studio in the Collectors Encyclopedia of Pickard Studios on page 299. In 1922 Rivir Studio was opened by Issac Tolpin. What has survived from this studio are mostly AOG pieces as this one. All the etched work was very good quality, however, with imaginative, original patterns. There are no hairlines or cracks; manufacturing anomalies do exist, the occasional tiny iron speck, dust 'bump' in the glaze, etc.
