An extraordinary Victorian Scottish agate brooch c1860-70.
Beautifully made with great attention to detail, the brooch has twelve different polished agates in two different shapes.
The top is magnificent, the agates have a wonderful variety of colors.
The agates were meticulously cut and precisely fitted into a heavy sterling mounting.
The silver separating each stone is finely engraved with a graceful pattern.
The subtly domed pin measures 2" in diameter.
It has the original tube hinge and thick pin stem, the C clasp was replaced long ago with a locking safety clasp.
Excellent condition, there are two very minor ripples on the inner sterling circle, no distraction.
Total weight is 18 grams.
A fabulous treasure and a great addition to any collection.
