A lovely vintage cannetille* filigree sterling pin.
Cannetille is different from filigree in that the pieces have 3-dimensional elements such a twisted coils or springs and tiny beads.
The intricate filigree pin is beautifully executed with great precision, the oxidation accentuates the fine detail.
The symmetrical design is domed and covered with concentric circles of coiled wire domes with small beads on the top of the coils,
The final border has a flat frame of curled twisted wire, the outer edge is scalloped.
Excellent condition, no damage or visible wear.
Measures 1&3/8" in diameter with a depth of .25", total weight is 9 grams.
It closes with a C catch.
Unmarked the silver tested sterling with acid, there is a foreign hallmark. This hallmark looks like Hebrew suggesting it is a Yemenite piece.
A great example of 19th century cannetille filigree.
*Cannetille work was inspired by embroidery, reputedly the embroidery found in traditional peasant garments. One can find cannetille work from almost every European nation during the 1820's and 1830's.
