A sweet antique rose gold and opal pin from the Edwardian period..
These petite pins were most often a "lace pin" used to hold something in place-to confine a length of lace at the neckline or at the throat, sometimes to attach drapery at the shoulder. They often had sentimental meaning.
The center oval opal cabochon had electric green hues with a touch of pink, it is set in a multi prong rose gold setting.
The pin has a scalloped edge, within each scallop is a prong set faceted red stone, they may be rubies or spinel, I did not have them tested.
The scalloped edge has fine engraving around the curve and between the stones.
Measures 13/16" by .75", the opal is 7.5mm by 5mm, the red stones are 2mm, total weight is 2 grams.
Unmarked, the pin tested 10k with acid.
Excellent condition with minimal wear, it closes with an old style safety clasp that works in reverse.
A charming antique rose gold lace pin c1901-1910.
