A stunning antique Victorian brooch beautiful hand crafted in carved coral and 14k gold.
The coral is a beautiful salmon color, there are a minimum of 36 separate carvings consisting of 5 roses, 5 rosebuds, 6 cabochon 'buttons', 6 pieces of branch coral that make the frame and at least 12 leaves.
The piece has a graceful shape, the coral buttons are placed at the junctures of the frame.
The flowers and leaves are artfully placed in layers within the frame with slight overhang of some of the leaves.
Incredible detail in the sculpted and carved leaves, all the edges are finely notched and a center vein is carved, the roses are carved with deeply layered petals.
Incredibly crafted, each piece of coral is drilled and wired with 14k to the 14k tubular frame.
The top rose has the pendant loop, the findings are the old C catch and riveted tube pin stem.
The piece measures 2.25" by 1&5/8" with a depth of .5".
Amazing antique condition, no visible damage or wear, I can't find any defects and if there are any it is insignificant as the piece is absolutely stunning. One of the coral buttons is slightly darker, possibly a replacement though I believe it is original to the piece.
Unmarked, the gold tested 14k with acid.
Total weight is 15 grams.
A superb example of an antique Victorian carved coral pin/pendant c1860-80.
