*TSM is the hallmark for The Silver Mesa Company, the Mimbres Miniatures Collection features designs taken from black and white prehistoric pottery discovered in southwestern New Mexico. Over 7000 mimbres bowls are now in museums and private collections. The turtle motif is based on a design painted freehand on the inside of a bowl some 1000 years ago, using the leaves of yucca plants. This particular bowl is now in the University of Arkansas Museum in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The domed style Mimbres jewelry pieces deviate from the actual ancient Mimbres bowls in that the designs are on the outside of the bowl shaped jewelry instead of the inside.
