A fun vintage necklace of polished amethyst quartz stones in wire cages.
The natural light purple stones have clear quartz mixed in, amethyst is purple quartz so they are often found in the same bedrock.
The stones have a lot of variation in color and shape though the sizes are similar.
The nuggets are enclosed in soldered alpaca wire baskets, each has four wires with curves and jags that compliment the shapes of the nuggets.
They connect with jump rings to form a unique chunky chain necklace.
The necklace measures 30" long, the stones vary in size but are approximately .75" by 5/8".
The wire baskets and rings are alpaca*, a white metal that looks like silver and is commonly used in Mexico, Central and South America.
A great vintage polished amethyst quartz nugget necklace c1950s.

*Alpaca Silver is a non precious metal that imitates sterling silver. The silvery-grey metal alloy is made up of copper, zinc and nickel and sometimes iron. Alpaca Silver does NOT contain any real silver; it is just another name for Nickel Silver. The term for this alloy in Mexico, Central America, and South America is Alpaca Silver rather than Nickel Silver.
