A delightful antique Art Nouveau men's grooming accessory from the Victorian period.
Popular from the 1860s to the turn of the twentieth century, the handlebar moustache was the height of fashion and it demanded a good bit of a gentleman's time to wax, comb and curl.
The curler has a fabulous Art Nouveau sterling handle of a beautiful and shapely woman with raised arms and a leg peeking out from her flowing gown.
The steel curler is a miniature version of Victorian ladies hair curlers. It has a mother of pearl button that is pushed to open the cover of the steel rod.
The curler was heated in a lamp chimney or other heat sources before use.
Total length of the tool is 6.75", the sultry woman measures 3" by 7/8" across the widest part.
Marked sterling within the folds of her dress.
Excellent condition, the handle has no damage and minimal wear, the steel has some age spots, no distraction.
A great example of a novel grooming tool for those men sporting a handlebar moustache.
