A great vintage metal mesh purse with a fabulous celluloid frame.
I believe this purse to be Whiting Davis Co. from their line of 'Alumesh' though there is no longer a label.
Aluminum was used for its durability and lightness.
The links are domed to mimic beads, the aluminum is enameled in ivory.
The celluloid frame is my favorite part- the molded frame and a incised line design around it and the snap closure is adorable.
The celluloid handle is made from large oval double links.
The inside is lined in dark blue silk, it has two small slide pockets on the sides.
Measures 6" across the very top of the frame, 7.5" across the ends of the frame and 10" across the bottom, top to bottom is 8", the handle is 12.5" long.
Condition is excellent, no damage and minimal wear for it's age. There are no missing metal links, the frame snaps securely. It has been reinforced where the bag meets the frame- no distraction, there is very slight discoloration on some links, noticeable only with scrutiny, the purse is much better than it looks in the photos.
A fun Art Deco period metal mesh purse c1930s.
