A bold vintage handmade Mexican sterling pin c1900-30s.
Marked only Made in Mexico Silver, the pin predates the eagle stamp.
The center has a large oval crimped bezel natural green stone, the crimped bezel creates a scalloped frame around the stone.
The bezel is framed with twisted wire, it has a dark patina from years of oxidation.
The stone is a lovely sage to bright green with nice color variations and line patterns similar to those found in malachite. I have found this stone referred to only as 'greenstone'.
The silver design around the stone is a series of domes along the long edges, the ends are embellished with teardrop domes.
Excellent condition, no damage and minimal wear, it has the old wide C style catch.
Measures 3.25" by 2" and weighs a hefty 37.7 grams.
Unmarked for silver content, it has been tested with acid and is at least 925 sterling.
A great piece for closing a bulky sweater, shawl or cape, this pin is worthy of Frida Kahlo!
A wonderful example of Mexican sterling c1900-1930s.
