The pin follows the true Arts & Crafts Style of simplicity using traditional craftsmanship in themes which include natural, romantic, medieval or folk styles of decoration.
This pin falls into the natural/romantic category... In the Victorian 'language of flowers', lily of the valley meant "return of happiness".
Hand cut and pierced, lightly hammered, the fine details were chased into the silver. The flowers are gently domed to give them dimension, the entire pin has a subtle curve.
Superb workmanship and in excellent condition, no damage or visible wear, lovely aged patina.
Signed on the back Sterling with the hallmark of Panis, SGP in a triangle.
Measures 3.25' by 1.5", total weight is 11.4 grams.

*The Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston Exhibition Record 1897-1927 Panis was born in Dord, Albania in Eastern Europe in 1889. He moved to the United States in 1905 and became a jeweler, silversmith and enameler in Boston and later Falmouth, Massachusetts. He studied at the Massachusetts School of Art after serving in the Army during World War I. He exhibited at the Boston Society of Arts & Crafts in 1927.
