A stunning antique 14k, enamel and seed pearl mourning pin from the Victorian period c1850-1870s.
The enameled center has a spray of graceful lily-of-the-valley in gold and bead set natural seed pearls.
These particular flowers represented sweetness and the return of happiness which is why it is often depicted in mourning jewelry.
The enamel is framed with a 14k frame embellished with very fine hand engraving.
Measures 1&5/8" by 1&3/8", the enamel is 1&3/8" by 1&1/8".
It closes with a steel hinged tube pin stem, the old C catch was replaced with a safety clasp. The pin stem exceeds the length of the pin, a testament to its age.
Excellent condition with minimal wear, the enamel has a couple of scratches which are hardly visible due to the black color.
Unmarked, the frame tested 14k with acid, total weight is 10 grams.
A fabulous example of Victorian mourning jewelry with a lovely lily-of-the-valley design.
