An enchanting antique Egyptian Revival bar pin from the Victorian period c1880-1900.
The scarab beetle was sacred to the ancient Egyptians, a symbol of resurrection and the afterlife.
The safety pin style bar has a bezel set genuine iridescent beetle in the center.
The hard shell beetle has a beautiful natural iridescence that reflects beautiful blue and green on the textured black shell.
The bezel has a hand cut serrated edge with six prongs securing the beetle in the mounting.
The safety pin style was often used to attach lace to garments, especially at the throat.
The pin measures 1&3/8", the beetle is .5" by 3/8".
Excellent condition, no damage or visible wear, the shell is clean and retains its natural iridescent colors. White spots are reflection off the shell.
Unmarked, the gold tested 10k with acid.
A charming example of Egyptian Revival jewelry using a genuine natural beetle shell.
