A fabulous early Victorian large scenic cameo pendant with an elaborate 14k frame of a winding vine of fruit and leaves.
*Please note* The listing is for just the cameo, the heavy gold chain is for displaying the cameo, it can be purchased separately.
The meticulously carved shell has a tranquil scene of two women and a goose. One woman is seated with her arms out as if she is feeding the goose. The other woman stands beside her.
The foreground has a beautifully detailed tree, the women, goose and tree are carved in high relief.
The background has a fence with a modest home in front of wooded land.
The 14k gold frame is exquisite, it has a winding vine with finely textured leaves and hanging fruit. The vine is soldered to a scalloped base of twisted wire.
Both the frame and the cameo are in excellent condition, no damage or visible wear. There are no cracks or stress marks to the shell and the carving is crisp. Lead solder was used in a few places inside the back of the frame which was not unusual for the time period. It is not visible from the front.
The pendant measures 2&1/16" by 2", the cameo alone is 1&5/8" by 1.25".
Unmarked for karat, the frame tested 14k with acid. Total weight of the pendant is 13,5 grams.
A stunning antique scenic cameo with a unique theme and extraordinary frame.
