A a fine quality Victorian sterling sash ornament brooch with a buckle motif.
Sash ornaments were worn at the waist as a closure or as a closure for heavy capes, coats or cloaks.
Beautiful, delicate Victorian foliate designs embellish the piece, the center false buckle findings are purely ornamental to give the appearance of a true buckle.
The piece is curved so it conforms to waist and holds material securely.
Very well made by R. Blackinton Co. of North Attleboro, MA c1862-1900, hallmarked with their early logo and numbered 3598.
It has the old wide C clasp and thick pin stem to accommodate heavy material.
Measures 3&1/8" by 2.25" and weighs a hefty 29 grams.
Excellent condition, no damage or visible wear.
A beautiful example of a Victorian sterling buckle style sash ornament brooch.
