A stunning handcrafted Victorian cross beautifully made in 14k antique rose and yellow gold.
The fleur de Lis stylearms are fashioned with a symbolism of the lily flower that was once the symbol of French royalty.
The three-petaled ends of each arm of the cross represent the Trinity the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
A triple lobed leaf emblem is engraved at the end of each arm, the center has a bead set seed pearl framed with a circle of black enamel.
The raised pearl setting symbolizes the resurrection, the yellow gold setting sits on a heavily textured yellow gold dimensional leaf design, the four leaves fold between each arm.
The background of the cross has a random textured surface which represents the cobbled stone road that led to Golgotha.
A thin border or plain gold frames the entire cross.
The back of the cross is plain, the center knob is how the escutcheon is riveted to the center.
It has a plain soldered bail and a ring for a chain.
The cross measures 1.5" (without the ring and bail) by 1&1/8 wide and .25" deep.
Total weight is 9.7 grams, unmarked, it tested 14k with acid.
Excellent condition, beautiful old patina, no visible damage or wear.
A fabulous antique treasure from the Victorian period c1880-1900.
