A fabulous antique sterling silver box made by Gorham c1875-1900.
The round box has amazing repousse floral designs covering the top and sides.
The mix of flowers and foliage are beautifully executed with precision.
The top is gently domed, the sides puff out, there are chased scallops on the edges where the top and bottom meet.
The bottom is elaborately engraved with a very fancy monogram 'AGL', the number 405 is stamped below it.
Excellent, near mint condition, no damage or visible wear, beautiful old patina and oxidation that accentuates the fine detail in the flowers and leaves. The hinge is tight, the box opens and closes perfectly.
Measures 2&5/8" in diameter by about 7/8" high.
Marked on the bottom lip Sterling and the hallmarks for Gorham for the last quarter of the 19th century.
Total weight is 66.3 grams.
