A wonderful early 19th century gilt brass cloisonne box with a beveled glass top.
The four sides of the box have fabulous figural designs of men playing musical instruments, juggling, catching butterflies, smoking a long pipe and standing on a bridge. Plants and buildings add color and interest and complete the pictures, the black enamel background provides great contrast to the colorful designs.
The hinged top is beveled glass set with fancy prongs, the bottom has round ball feet, a piece of blue silk velvet lines the inside.
Measures 3.75" by 2&5/8" by 2.25" high.
Condition is very good, there is one small section that has very minor enamel loss (photo 3, the red garment at the corner )- no distraction.
The bottom inside is soldered but shows residue where it was reinforced with glue. The top closes, there is a bit of a gap on one side as it is just slightly off center.
Displays beautifully and is totally functional and can be used for trinkets, etc. Please view the photos, they are part of the description.
