A charming Native American beaded purse made by the Iroquois.
The Eastern Woodlands culture included beautiful and very precise bead work.
This sweet piece has a lovely floral design on both sides.
The design is about the same, some colors are different.
The beading is done on a soft black material which I believe to be silk., it has decorative false flaps on both sides.
The inside is a coarse cotton or flax, the edges are bound with silk.
The original long cord handle is (detached)inside the purse.
Displays beautifully though there is fraying to the bound edges as well as some bead loss. Some loose beads are included with the bag.
Measures 6.5" long, 5.5" at the widest, 4.5" across top and 2.5" across the bottom.
A fine example of Eastern Woodlands bead work c1900.
