An outstanding antique Arts & Crafts period tooled leather purse.
The rich red-brown leather has a beautiful design of maple leaves on the front.
The workmanship is exceptional, very neat and clean.
The 16" handle is laced with strips of darker leather, the sides are are laced to match.
The gilt brass frame has a great design, the drop has an insert of red bakelite that is painted brown- I don't know if the paint is original to the piece.
There is some wear on the paint and I have left it as is.
The drop is not just decorative, it serves as a lock and is turned to open the purse though it can be left in the open position.
The inside is green suede, there is one small slide pocket and an ID slide on the pocket.
Measures 8.5" by 7.5" with a 1" gusset.
A small tooled leather change purse is original to the bag, it is tooled with a floral design on the flap which is also laced. It measures 4" by 2.25" and closes with a snap.
The condition is excellent, the leather is strong and supple, no damage and the slightest of wear to the gilt finish on the frame.
Overall a very fine example of a hard to find Arts & Crafts purse c1910.
